Double No Trouble Wednesday, April 24, 2013

WHEN Gavin McCormack told Trevor Jackson he wanted “the best” hydraulic products for his new truck, the choice was simple – NZH.

Consequently the Pahiatua-based workshop of Jackson Enterprises fitted McCormack Transport’s newest addition to its nine-strong fleet, a Mack Quantum 470, with a Hydrocar PTO and pump, Oilpath control valves and Delta twin underbody cylinders.

The trailer has the L120 Harsh stabilised tipping gear for added stability. The unit is a multi-tasker and is used for both tipwork and stock carting all over the Waikato. This is the fourth unit Jackson Enterprises has built for McCormack. “It was important to us that the truck is versatile and durable. That’s why a quality job in terms of body building, crate building and hydraulics was important to us,” Gavin says.

Total Stockcrates in Fielding built the aluminium stock crates, which can be hoisted on and off the 24-foot truck deck and 29-foot trailer when required. Trevor Jackson says he built his first truck and trailer body for a customer who could not get the job done elsewhere in the available timeframe. “I started out in the maintenance of heavy vehicles…now we build everything from flat decks, bathtubs, curtain siders, drop siders and bifolds to side tipping units from one end of the country to the other,” he says. His handiwork can be found in the stables of transport companies throughout New Zealand: including Ryall Bush Transport in Southland, Martinborough Transport in the Wairarapa, David Pope Transport in Masterton,Total Transport and Gordon Transport in Taupo and Heikell Transport in Whakatane. Trevor has had a long relationship with NZH. He says he finds NZH products reliable and good value for money and likes that the company is well represented. “I also find many clients specify that I must use NZH – they trust the company’s products and get along well with the sales reps.” Gavin says the new Mack’s full air-suspension all around is a dream: “It’s like driving down the road in a bus!” His eight other trucks are also Macks.
